Run # 2, harder than expected. C25k

This week I started the couch to 5k program, and last night was my week 1, workout 2 (out of 9 weeks) and it was much harder than I expected. I've been told or read that week 1 is easy because you alternate 1 min of jogging with 90 seconds of walking. Ok, it was not easy for me at all.

I haven't done any significant amount of exercise in a few years, and I felt it yesterday. The first run on Sunday was challenging, but fine. This time, my hips were screaming. I wasn't out of breath, or feeling tired, but my body let me know loud and clear, "this is what happens when you are close to  40 and haven't been taking very good care of yourself." Message received loud and clear.

I finished the 30 min program about a 1/2 mile from home and hobbled the rest of the way. I took a good 20 mins to stretch and my hips were still not letting up. I thought maybe I had really hurt myself. I drank a ton of water, took 2 advil and hoped for the best.

I woke up early this morning and, I know this is silly, I was afraid to move. I was waiting for the pain to kick in. It never did. I was shocked. Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely sore, but walking fine.

The point of this whole rant is that this is going to be more of a challenge than I thought. But if it were easy, everyone would run every day. It's a new day and ready to regroup for the next workout. I think I am going to give myself two days to rest this time.
